How can we control it? Why do we let it in? Do we let it hold us back from enjoying life?

These are questions that I ask myself daily. It is so hard to control our thoughts when we have these things that can pop in at any time and take over. Fear of poverty, criticism, getting sick, loss of someone, old age, death, not being enough for someone, not being a good spouse, parent, child or friend, and not reaching our dreams and accomplishing our goals. There are so many other fears, they are endless and disturbing in the fact that we can let them overcome us. We let fear hold us back from really living the life that God created us to live. We try to overcome it but, (there is always a but) our minds take over. Someone or something is in our way, and we are too afraid to see what would happen if we would just take the next leap or even a step at all. God doesn’t call us to live in fear!

“Fear not” is mentioned many times in the Bible. God makes it very clear that we should not live in fear. We should take chances on our dreams, do our best to serve God, and live life to the fullest! We can make good decisions that we feel confident about. Erase the doubt and overcome our fear with passion for something greater. Our happiness and joy in Christ is what we should strive for! We will and can overcome anything that we put in our hearts and minds.

2 Timothy 1:7 – For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

I know that I have a lot of fear that has to do with my family. One of my fears is missing my three beautiful girls growing up. I feel like they are growing up too fast and I can’t freeze time. The “what ifs” set in. What if…we don’t have enough money to survive and this puts more stress on my husband and our family? I have been praying about this, and I can feel the peace of it all creeping in and overcoming the fear. God loves us! He has been and will continue to take care of us.

I challenge you to make a list right now of all your fears. Don’t do it later – just take at least five minutes right now and list all of them. They don’t have to be in any order, but you should write them out. You need to see what they are and find the root cause of your fear. You can pray over each one of them daily until they no longer are a fear in your life or have that peaceful feeling. You deserve to have the joyful life that you were intended for. Ask someone you trust to pray with you on this indecision, doubt, and fear. Yes, this will be hard to do, a struggle will come with this, and this is where you have to start. Always know, God has your hand.
